Super Sangokushi is one of those classic SNES strategy games where you dive straight into the chaos of China's Three Kingdoms era. You pick a warlord—or even make your own—and suddenly you're juggling armies, diplomacy, and resource management while trying not to get steamrolled by Cao Cao or Liu Bei.
The first time I played, I went with Sun Jian because, hey, coastal territories sounded safe. Big mistake. Everyone wants a piece of your land, and the AI doesn’t mess around. You’ll spend half your time negotiating shaky alliances and the other half scrambling to train troops before someone declares war on you.
It’s got that old-school hex-based movement, so battles feel tactical without being overwhelming. And the music? Surprisingly intense for a 16-bit game—like someone remixed ancient Chinese war drums with SNES synth. If you’re into historical strategy with a side of nostalgia, this one’s a solid time sink.
