Super Royal Blood is one of those obscure SNES gems that never made it out of Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this weirdly satisfying mix of strategy and action. You start off picking a faction (I went with the knights first, but the ninjas are way more fun once you figure them out), and then it’s just this chaotic scramble to capture castles while your army clashes with the enemy.
The pixel art is surprisingly detailed for an SNES game, especially when the screen fills up with soldiers mid-battle. And yeah, it’s in Japanese, but the menus aren’t too hard to figure out after a couple of tries. Just don’t expect a deep story—it’s all about the frantic, small-scale warfare.
If you’re into retro strategy games with a bite-sized feel, this one’s worth digging up.
