About Super Ninja-kun
I picked up Super Ninja-kun for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System a while back; it came out in 1994 from Jaleco. It's one of those side-scrolling action games that felt right at home on the SNES, a platform full of ninja and platforming titles. You don't hear about it as much as some other games from that era, but it has its own particular style.
You control a young ninja on a mission to rescue his kidnapped master. The game plays out across discrete, single-screen stages where you jump between platforms and defeat enemies. Your main tools are a short-range sword slash and a limited supply of shurikens for attacking from a distance. A key mechanic is the ability to cling to certain walls and ceilings, which adds a vertical dimension to navigating the levels and avoiding hazards. The pacing is generally quick, but the stages can be surprisingly difficult, demanding precise jumps and careful enemy management. It feels like a straightforward, challenging action game that tests your timing and spatial awareness.
