Super Metroid X - 101 Run is one of those SNES games that just sticks with you. You start off in that eerie, quiet landing zone on Zebes, and right away, the atmosphere pulls you in—those moody pixelated corridors, the distant hum of machinery, and that iconic soundtrack. The controls feel perfect, like Samus moves exactly how you’d expect a badass bounty hunter to move.
This version throws in the 101% challenge, which means you’re hunting down every missile tank, energy tank, and hidden upgrade. At first, it seems impossible—how do you even reach that ledge?—but then you get the morph ball or the grapple beam, and suddenly the whole map opens up. The bosses still hit hard, especially Ridley, who somehow feels even more chaotic in this run.
If you’ve played the original, you’ll recognize the genius level design, but there are enough tweaks here to keep it fresh. And if you haven’t? You’re in for one of the best Metroidvanias ever made. Just don’t blame me when you spend hours lost in Brinstar trying to figure out where to go next.
