Super James Pond on SNES is one of those weird, charming platformers that feels like someone threw James Bond, a fish, and a bunch of underwater puns into a blender. You play as—you guessed it—James Pond, a stretchy secret agent fish who flops around rescuing sea creatures from some seriously goofy villains.
The first thing you’ll notice is how bizarrely flexible Pond is—he can stretch vertically like taffy to reach high-up switches, which takes some getting used to. The controls are a little slippery (he is a fish, after all), but once you get the hang of bouncing off jellyfish and dodging propeller enemies, it clicks. The levels are packed with hidden areas, and the music has that classic SNES synth-cheerfulness that sticks in your head.
It’s not the hardest game out there, but there’s something oddly satisfying about the way it leans into its own silliness. If you’re into retro platformers with personality, this one’s a solid dive into the past.
