Super Genjin came out for the Super Nintendo in 1991, developed by Hudson Soft. It was the first Bonk game on the system, arriving early in the console's life when developers were still figuring out what the hardware could do. You saw a lot of colorful, side scrolling platformers then, and this one fit right in.

You control Bonk, a small caveman with a comically large head. Your goal is to rescue the kidnapped Princess Za from the evil King Drool. You move through levels screen by screen, headbutting enemies and bouncing off their heads to reach higher platforms. You collect meat to power up, which changes Bonk's size and abilities; a fully powered up Bonk becomes huge and nearly invincible for a short time. The game moves at a quick pace, and the levels are filled with secret warp zones and alternate paths that encourage replaying. It feels chaotic and silly, a game where you are just as likely to be bouncing off a dinosaur's snout as you are falling through a trap door.
