Super Bombliss came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995, published by Toshiba EMI. It was part of that late SNES era where you saw a lot of puzzle games trying to find a new angle on familiar ideas. This one was their take on the falling block genre, but it definitely had its own identity right from the start.

You control the placement of different shaped bomb blocks as they descend. The main goal is to create and detonate large explosions by arranging four or more bomb blocks of the same color so they touch. The signature mechanics involve careful stacking; you can rotate the pieces and slide them sideways before they lock into place, and the chain reactions from a well-placed set of bombs can clear huge sections of the screen at once. The pacing is methodical, but the difficulty ramps up as the drop speed increases and the playfield gets more cramped. It feels satisfying to set off a massive chain that clears the board just when you are about to run out of space.
