Ever stumbled across one of those obscure Japan-only SNES games that makes you go, "Wait, what is this?" That’s Super Aoki Ookami to Shiroki Mejika for you. It’s a tactical RPG with this weirdly specific vibe—part samurai drama, part chess-like strategy, and all wrapped in that classic 16-bit aesthetic.
You start off picking between two factions (blue wolf or white deer—hence the title), and honestly, I just went with the wolf because it looked cooler. Turns out, positioning matters way more than brute force here—one wrong move and your entire frontline gets wiped by archers. The menus are all in Japanese, but if you’ve played enough retro strategy games, you’ll fumble through it. The music’s got that SNES charm too, all dramatic flutes and tense battle drums.
Definitely one for the niche crowd, but if you’re into digging up forgotten tactical gems, this one’s a curious time capsule.
