Okay, so Star Trek on SNES—it's one of those weird early '90s adaptations where they tried to cram a whole Trek experience into a 16-bit box. You start off picking between Kirk, Spock, or McCoy (obviously I went with Kirk first, because come on), and then it throws you into this mix of top-down ship navigation and weirdly stiff away-team missions.
The ship controls feel like a budget Elite—you’re warping between sectors, scanning planets, and occasionally getting ambushed by Klingons. The combat’s clunky but kinda charming once you get used to it. Meanwhile, the ground missions? Imagine Phantasy Star but with pixelated redshirts getting vaporized by Romulans if you take a wrong turn.
It’s janky, the dialogue’s hilariously compressed, and the soundtrack’s just the theme song on loop—but if you’re a Trek fan, there’s something weirdly endearing about it. Just don’t expect it to hold up like TNG on a lazy Sunday.
