Space Megaforce on SNES is one of those shooters that just feels right the second you start playing. Your ship zips across the screen smoothly, and the weapon upgrades—oh man, the weapon upgrades—turn you from a peashooter into an absolute screen-clearing monster if you grab the right ones. I always went for the homing lasers first—way less stressful than aiming.
The levels throw these dense waves of enemies at you, but the hitbox is fair (unlike some other 16-bit bullet hells). And the music? Pure early '90s synth energy—that bassline in Stage 3 still gets stuck in my head. It’s tough but never cheap, which makes finally nailing a perfect run so satisfying. Just don’t get too cocky when you unlock the secret weapons.
If you’ve got a SNES or an emulator handy, this one’s still a blast decades later.
