I first played Space Invaders on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994. It was a Taito release, a straightforward port of the arcade game that felt right at home on the console. During that era, the SNES library was filling up with complex adventures and fast platformers, so having this simple, focused shooter available was a nice change of pace.

You control a lone laser cannon that slides left and right along the bottom of the screen. Your objective is to destroy every alien in the descending formation before it reaches the ground or you run out of lives. The core mechanics are pure and tense: you fire upward at the invaders while using four destructible bunkers for cover from their return fire. The aliens move as a block, gradually speeding up as their numbers thin, and a mysterious UFO occasionally drifts across the top of the screen for bonus points. The pacing is methodical at first, but the difficulty ramps up sharply, demanding quick reflexes and precise shots in the later waves. It feels like a direct, no-frills test of your focus and accuracy.
