Space Ace came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, a conversion of the laser disc arcade game by Cinematronics. It was part of that wave of interactive movie games on the SNES, where the focus was more on reacting to on-screen prompts than traditional exploration. You don't get the sprawling worlds of other platformers from that time; instead, you follow a set path of animated scenes.

You control the hero, Ace, as he tries to rescue his partner, Kimberly, from the villainous Commander Borf. The main objective is to survive each scene by pressing the correct directional or action button when a prompt flashes. The signature mechanics are these quick time events; you have a split second to react, and failing means you take a hit or see Ace get zapped into a baby. The branching paths offer some replayability, letting you choose different routes through the danger. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is unforgiving, demanding perfect timing and memorization. It feels like a frantic test of your reflexes more than a leisurely adventure.
