Skuljagger - Revolt of the Westicans is one of those SNES platformers that feels like it got lost in the shuffle back in the day—which is a shame, because it’s got this weird, scrappy charm. You play as Skuljagger, a pirate-looking dude with a sword, and yeah, the story’s basically "evil bad guys, go save everyone," but the real draw is how it plays.
The first thing you’ll notice is the controls—they’re weighty, almost sluggish at first, but once you get used to the timing, slashing through enemies feels satisfying. The levels throw these little environmental puzzles at you, like flipping switches or finding hidden paths, and some of the platforming can get surprisingly tricky. Not gonna lie, I died a lot to those spike traps early on.
Visually, it’s got that early ‘90s SNES vibe—bright colors, chunky sprites, and some surprisingly detailed backgrounds. The music’s catchy in that way where you’ll hum it for days without realizing where it’s from. It’s not the hardest game out there, but it’s got enough challenge to keep you pushing forward. If you dig obscure retro platformers with personality, this one’s worth a look.
