Shounen Ninja Sasuke is one of those SNES games that feels like it flew under the radar, but it’s got this weirdly satisfying mix of platforming and ninja action. You start off with basic shuriken throws and jumps, but before long, you’re wall-climbing, dodging traps, and figuring out which enemies to take out quietly versus which ones to just slash through. The controls are tight—no floaty jumps here—and the levels actually make you think like a ninja, not just a guy with a sword.
The art style’s got that classic 16-bit charm, with some surprisingly detailed backgrounds for a game this old. And the music? It’s got this one stage theme that’s been stuck in my head since 1994. Boss fights can be brutal if you rush in, but once you learn their patterns (and accept that you’ll die a few times), it clicks. Not the deepest game ever, but if you’re into ninja stuff and missed this one back in the day, it’s worth dusting off.
