Rockman & Forte (or Mega Man & Bass, if you played the later English version) is one of those weirdly tough SNES Mega Man games that never got as much love as it deserved. You pick between Mega Man or Bass—Bass feels faster but way less forgiving, while Mega Man’s classic playstyle is more reliable. The levels? Brutal. Expect instant-death spikes, enemies that ambush you mid-jump, and some of the most chaotic boss fights in the series.
What’s cool, though, is how different the game feels depending on who you pick. Bass can double-jump and dash, but his weapon energy drains fast. Mega Man’s more straightforward, but you’ll miss those extra movement options when you’re stuck on some of the later stages. The soundtrack’s got that classic Mega Man energy, and the sprite work is crisp—just don’t expect it to go easy on you.
If you’re into old-school Mega Man but want something that’ll actually make you sweat, this one’s worth digging up.
