RPG Tsukuru 2 is basically the SNES version of a DIY fantasy kit—you get to build your own old-school RPG from scratch. At first, it feels overwhelming with all the menus for characters, maps, and dialogue, but once you mess around with it for a bit, you realize how much freedom you actually have.
I spent way too long tweaking my hero’s stats before realizing I could just make them overpowered and steamroll my own dungeons. The sprite editor’s clunky by today’s standards, but there’s something satisfying about piecing together a janky little world that’s entirely yours. If you’ve ever wanted to design a game but got intimidated by modern tools, this is like RPG Maker’s charming, pixelated grandpa.
Just don’t expect it to hold your hand—half the fun is figuring out how the pieces fit together.
