Pro Yakyuu Star on SNES is one of those baseball games that just feels right—fast, arcade-style pitching and batting with just enough strategy to keep you thinking. The pixel art holds up surprisingly well, especially the little animations when a batter smacks one deep into the outfield.
First thing you’ll notice? The pitching mechanic is weirdly satisfying—hold the button to wind up, release to throw, and watch the batter whiff if you’ve got the timing down. Batting’s a bit trickier; I kept swinging too early at first, but once you get the hang of it, nailing a home run feels awesome. Fielding’s simple but not brainless, which is a nice balance.
No real MLB teams here (it’s Japan-only), but the made-up squads have their own quirks—some are stacked with power hitters, others rely on speed. I kept going back to the team with the red caps because their cleanup hitter absolutely crushes fastballs. Definitely a solid pick if you’re into old-school sports games that don’t overcomplicate things.
