Power Monger on SNES is one of those weird, ambitious strategy games that feels like a mix of Civilization and a medieval brawl. You start off with a tiny village and a handful of troops, and before long, you're sending scouts to map out the foggy terrain, bribing rival lords to join your cause, or just straight-up burning their villages down if they refuse. The controls take a minute to get used to—everything’s done with this floating cursor—but once it clicks, you’ll be micromanaging farms, armies, and diplomacy like a paranoid king.
The best part? The AI doesn’t mess around. If you leave a border undefended, some rival faction will absolutely roll in and take your stuff. And the battles? Chaotic. Your little pixel soldiers clash in real-time, and watching a well-placed cavalry charge break an enemy line never gets old. It’s janky in that classic ‘90s way, but there’s nothing else quite like it on the SNES.
Just don’t expect a tutorial—this game throws you into the deep end with a dagger and a prayer.
