NFL Quarterback Club 96 on SNES is one of those mid-90s football games that somehow still feels good to play, even if the graphics are obviously dated. You pick your team—I always went with the 49ers—and jump straight into that classic top-down football view. The controls take a second to get used to, but once you figure out the passing mechanics, you can actually pull off some surprisingly deep plays.
What I like about it is that it doesn’t overcomplicate things. No endless menus, no convoluted stat systems—just pick a play, snap the ball, and try not to get sacked. The animations are a little stiff by today’s standards, but back then, seeing your QB actually pump-fake before throwing was kind of a big deal. And yeah, the commentary is hilariously repetitive, but that’s part of the charm.
If you’re into retro sports games, this one holds up better than most from the era. Just don’t expect Madden-level realism.
