International Superstar Soccer Deluxe is one of those SNES sports games that still holds up surprisingly well. Konami nailed the arcade-style soccer feel—fast passes, smooth dribbling, and just enough tactical depth without overcomplicating things. The controls are tight, and the animations have this satisfying weight to them, especially when you nail a long-range shot.
First thing you’ll notice? The chunky, colorful sprites and that classic 16-bit crowd noise. It’s got all the big national teams (with slightly altered names for licensing reasons, but you’ll recognize them). The AI isn’t brutal, but it’s not a pushover either—you actually have to time tackles and think about positioning.
Still my go-to when I want a quick match without the fuss of modern soccer sims. The overhead camera angle just works.
