Gunstar Future Heroes is that perfect mix of chaos and control—you start off with this tiny little gun, but within minutes you're flipping between weapon combos like some kind of mad scientist. The GBA screen somehow makes the explosions pop even harder, and the way your character slides across the floor after a dodge roll just feels right.
It’s got that classic Gunstar energy where you’ll be juggling three different attacks at once, trying not to get swarmed by whatever nightmare robots the level throws at you. I kept switching between the homing shots and the flamethrower—turns out setting everything on fire works surprisingly well against giant mechs.
And yeah, it’s nostalgic, but not in a lazy way. The pixel art’s crisp, the music slaps, and the controls are tight enough that when you die, you know it’s your fault. Perfect for short bursts or long sessions if you’re stubborn enough to keep retrying that one boss. Still holds up.
