Great Battle III is that weird, fun little SNES beat 'em up where all these Japanese crossover heroes get tossed into a fantasy world—think Golden Axe, but with robots and samurai mixed in with your typical swords and sorcery. The sprites are chunky and colorful, and the controls actually feel responsive, which isn’t always a given for these kinds of games.
You pick from four characters (I usually go with the knight—his reach is just better), and then it’s classic side-scrolling brawler action: smashing skeletons, riding weird creatures, and occasionally stumbling through menus since, yeah, it’s Japanese-only. But honestly, you don’t need to understand much to enjoy whacking monsters with a giant sword.
It’s not the deepest game out there, but it’s got charm and a solid dose of that early '90s arcade-style chaos.
