Gekisou Sentai Car Ranger is one of those weird, hyper-Japanese SNES games that never left Japan—which is a shame, because it’s basically a Power Rangers racing game with way more chaos than you’d expect. You pick a ranger (I always went with Red because, well, protagonist rules), and then it throws you into these wild top-down races where you’re dodging traffic, shooting enemy cars, and occasionally transforming into your mech form mid-race to punch giant monsters. Classic ‘90s Bandai insanity.
The controls take a second to get used to—drifting feels weirdly stiff at first—but once you realize you can ram into enemies to steal their power-ups, it clicks. Also, the soundtrack slaps. It’s got that crunchy SNES synth-rock thing going on, like someone remixed the Super Sentai theme for a Sega CD. Not the deepest racer, but it’s got charm for days. If you’re into obscure Japanese oddities, this one’s a blast with a friend.
