Fushigi No Dungeon 2—or Fuurai No Shiren, if you wanna get fancy—is one of those SNES roguelikes that’ll humble you real quick. You play as Shiren, a wanderer diving into randomly generated dungeons where every step could mean a sudden death by trap, monster, or your own bad decisions. No saves, no mercy.
The first time I played, I thought I could just hack and slash my way through. Nope. Hunger drains you fast, weapons break at the worst times, and some enemies have tricks that’ll make you groan. But that’s the charm—you learn by dying. A lot. Eventually, you start noticing patterns, like how certain items combo well or which floors to avoid when you’re under-leveled.
It’s brutal, but when you finally beat a dungeon after a dozen tries, it feels like an actual achievement. Just don’t get too attached to your gear—you’ll lose it all next run anyway. If you like roguelikes with zero hand-holding, this one’s a classic for a reason.
