FIFA 97 on the SNES is one of those classic soccer games that feels a little rough around the edges now, but back in the day, it was solid. The controls are simple—pass, shoot, sprint—but mastering the through balls and angled shots takes some practice. The pixelated players have just enough detail to tell them apart, and the commentary (while repetitive) adds that nostalgic charm.
It’s not as fluid as modern FIFA games, obviously, but there’s something satisfying about the chunky animations and the way the ball bounces unpredictably sometimes. Play a few matches, and you’ll start picking favorites—I always went for Brazil because their speed made up for my questionable defense. If you’re into retro sports games, this one’s a decent time capsule.
