Farland Story 2 is one of those classic SNES tactical RPGs that flew under the radar outside Japan. You’ve got your grid-based battles, your party of fantasy units (knights, mages, the usual), and a surprisingly decent story for a mid-90s strategy game. The sprites are tiny but charming, and the music has that nostalgic SNES synth vibe.
What sets it apart? The branching class system—your units evolve differently depending on how you train them. I remember restarting a few times because my archer somehow turned into a mediocre swordsman. Pro tip: pay attention to those stat growths.
It’s not Fire Emblem-level polished, but if you’re into retro SRPGs with a bit of jank, this one’s a solid time capsule. The translation patches these days make it way more playable, too.
