Dragon Ball Z: Super Saiya Densetsu is this weird little Japan-only SNES RPG that never made it overseas. It’s got this card-based battle system—totally different from any other DBZ game—where you’re stacking attack cards to pull off combos like Kamehamehas or Spirit Bombs. The sprites are chunky but charming, and the story follows the Saiyan and Namek sagas, so you’re basically reliving the anime with turn-based fights.
What’s cool is how it actually feels like an RPG, not just a fighting game with level-ups. You recruit characters, manage energy (ki) points, and even get those classic Dragon Ball moments where Goku powers up at the worst possible time. The card system takes some getting used to, but once you figure out how to chain attacks, it’s oddly satisfying.
It’s a shame it never got localized—this one’s a hidden gem for DBZ fans who don’t mind digging into retro RPG mechanics.
