Densetsu no Ogre Battle is one of those SNES gems that flew under the radar but absolutely shouldn’t have. It’s this weird, wonderful mix of real-time strategy and RPG where you’re leading an army of customizable units across a fantasy world map. The first time I played, I spent way too long agonizing over unit compositions—do I go heavy on knights, or mix in some mages? Turns out, throwing a werewolf into your frontline works surprisingly well.
The game’s got this cool reputation system where your choices actually shape how the story unfolds, and the soundtrack? Pure 16-bit majesty. It’s not the easiest game to jump into—there’s a learning curve with the unit management—but once it clicks, you’ll be hooked on balancing troop morale, alignment, and those satisfying little battlefield skirmishes. Still holds up today if you’re into deep, tactical RPGs.
