Crystal Beans From Dungeon Explorer is one of those weird little SNES dungeon crawlers that never left Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this odd charm to it. You start by picking from eight heroes, and honestly, some of them feel borderline useless at first (I went with the samurai, no regrets).
It’s not your typical loot-heavy crawler—instead, bosses drop these colored power-ups that boost different stats. If you’re playing co-op, two drop at once, which is nice. Health potions pop up occasionally, but good luck remembering where—I just mashed buttons and hoped for the best.
The real kicker? Crystal beans act as your continues. Find them scattered in dungeons, lose them all, and you’re back to the title screen. It’s simple, a little janky, but weirdly satisfying once you get into the rhythm. Definitely one of those hidden gems worth digging up if you’re into retro oddities.
