Chessmaster on SNES is basically the granddaddy of digital chess—it's an upgraded port of Chessmaster 2000, but with that classic 16-bit charm. The board looks crisp, pieces move smoothly, and there’s just something satisfying about playing chess with those chunky pixel knights and pawns.
You’ve got your usual difficulty settings, from "I just learned how the horsey moves" to "I think the AI is cheating." The computer actually puts up a decent fight, too—none of that predictable beginner nonsense. And yeah, it’s still chess, so don’t expect fireworks, but if you’re into the game, this version holds up surprisingly well.
Fun detail: The announcer sounds way too dramatic when declaring "Checkmate." Like, dude, it’s just a virtual rook taking my king, relax.
