Man, The Chaos Engine (or Soldiers of Fortune, depending on where you're from) is one of those SNES gems that doesn’t get enough love. You pick from six mercenaries—each with their own weird quirks, like the Preacher with his grenades or the Navvie who just smashes everything—and dive into this steampunk nightmare full of mutants and mechanical horrors.
It’s a top-down shooter, but way more tactical than it looks. You’re constantly juggling ammo, keys, and health while blasting through maze-like levels. And if you’ve got a buddy for co-op? Even better—just try not to shoot each other by accident (it happens). The art’s grimy in the best way, and the music? Pure moody industrial vibes.
Honestly, half the fun is figuring out which mercenary actually works for you. I thought the Thug would be my go-to, but turns out the Scientist’s weird gadgets grew on me. Good luck shutting down that engine—you’ll need it.
