I picked up Bomberman Max 2: Bomberman Version for my Game Boy Advance back in 2002. It was developed by Hudson Soft, a company well known for the series, and it felt like a solid entry during a time when the GBA was full of portable adventures. This one was part of a pair of games, with a Max Version released alongside it, offering a slightly different set of levels and collectible monsters to find.

You control Bomberman, navigating him through a series of single screen rooms. Your main goal is to find the exit in each stage, which often requires clearing all the enemies or solving a simple puzzle by placing bombs to destroy soft blocks. The signature mechanics involve collecting power ups that increase your bomb blast length, allow you to drop more bombs at once, or grant you special abilities like kicking bombs across the room. You can also collect and raise little creatures called Charaboms, which provide passive benefits during the levels. The pacing is generally quick, though some later stages can get tricky with more complex enemy patterns and maze like layouts. It feels satisfying to chain explosions together and clear a path to the next area.
