Bomberman 5 on SNES is one of those sequels that actually adds some cool stuff without messing up the formula. You’ve still got the classic grid-based chaos—drop bombs, blow up walls, and try not to trap yourself—but now there’s a weird little story mode with these animal buddies that give you different abilities. The kangaroo’s my favorite; lets you kick bombs across the map like some kind of explosive soccer game.
First time I played, I got wrecked by the new enemy types—some of them actually dodge your explosions, which feels unfair until you figure out their patterns. The stages get pretty wild later on, with teleporters and conveyor belts throwing off your timing. Still, nothing beats the multiplayer mode with four players crammed on a couch, screaming when someone pulls off a sneaky chain explosion.
It’s not the most polished Bomberman, but the sheer chaos makes up for it.
