Battle Racers is one of those SNES racers that flew under the radar—probably because Japan never got an official overseas release. It’s got that early '90s Banpresto charm: bright colors, chunky sprites, and a weirdly satisfying sense of speed when you hit the nitro. The tracks twist and loop like something out of F-Zero, but with way more aggressive AI that’ll straight-up ram you into walls if you’re not careful.
First race in, you’re picking between these oddly specific car classes (why is there a "samurai" category?), and then you’re thrown into this neon-drenched city track with zero hand-holding. The handling’s a bit slippery at first, but once you get used to tapping the shoulder buttons to drift around tight corners, it clicks. Also, the announcer yells "GOOOO!" like he’s personally invested in your failure.
Not gonna lie, the rubberbanding is brutal—get too far ahead, and suddenly the CPU cars are glued to your tail. But there’s something addictive about shaving seconds off your lap times just to spite them. If you dig arcade racers with attitude, this one’s a hidden time capsule.
