Ballz 3D came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994, developed by PF Magic. It was one of those polygonal fighting games that tried to stand out during the SNES era, using a visual style that felt different from the usual sprite based fighters. The game arrived at a time when 3D graphics on a 16 bit console were still a novelty, and it certainly made an impression, even if the execution was a bit rough around the edges.

You control a fighter made of spheres, like a living toy, and you move around a 3D arena to punch and kick your opponent. The main goal is to deplete the other fighter's health bar before they deplete yours. The signature mechanics include the ability to charge up special moves by holding buttons, and the way your character's ball joints visibly separate when hit hard. The pacing is fairly quick, and the difficulty can spike depending on the opponent, making some matches feel frantic. It feels a little stiff and unrefined to play, but there's a strange charm in watching your ball shaped fighter fall apart piece by piece.
