BAO Super V is one of those SNES platformers that feels like it got lost in time—in a good way. You jump in as this little armored dude (or dudette, I forget if there’s a choice) and immediately get thrown into these bright, chunky levels full of floating platforms and enemies that explode into satisfying little pixel bursts. The controls are tight, which matters because some of those jumps get mean by the third world.
What I love is how unapologetically retro it is—no tutorials, no hand-holding, just a power-up system that’s simple but makes you actually think before grabbing the wrong weapon upgrade. The music’s got that classic SNES synth vibe, too. If you’ve ever wasted an afternoon on Mega Man or Contra, this’ll feel like slipping into an old pair of sneakers. Just maybe keep a spare controller handy for when you rage-quit the lava level.
