Man, 3 Ninjas Kick Back on SNES is pure 90s kid fuel. You pick between Rocky, Colt, or Tum Tum (obviously I always went for the nunchucks guy) and brawl through these colorful, slightly janky side-scrolling levels. At first it feels like a standard beat-em-up, but then you realize each ninja actually plays different—some jump higher, some hit harder—and swapping between them mid-level actually matters.
The pixel art holds up weirdly well, especially the goofy enemy animations when you knock them into the background. And yeah, it’s definitely got that "rental game" vibe where you’ll die a lot figuring out the weird hitboxes, but there’s something satisfying about mastering the timing of those spinning kicks. Just don’t expect the plot to make sense if you haven’t seen the movie.
It’s the kind of game where you’ll yell at the screen when you miss a jump for the tenth time, but still hit continue because you need to see the next level’s ridiculous boss fight. Perfect for when you’re craving that specific flavor of old-school chaos.
