Man, Super Street Fighter II on the Genesis is still one of those games that just feels right. You boot it up, pick Ryu because let’s be honest, everyone starts with Ryu, and within seconds you’re throwing fireballs like it’s 1994 again. The sprite work holds up surprisingly well—Chun-Li’s kicks are still lightning-fast, and Zangief’s spinning pile driver looks as ridiculous (and satisfying) as ever.
What I love is how each character actually feels different. Guile’s all about holding back to charge up, while Dhalsim’s stretching arms make fights feel like a weird, floaty chess match. And yeah, the AI can be brutal—Bison will absolutely wreck you if you’re not careful—but that just makes landing a perfect dragon punch even sweeter.
It’s not just nostalgia, either. Couch versus mode is still a blast, especially when you’ve got a friend who swears they’re better than you (spoiler: they’re not). The Genesis version’s music has that crunchy, iconic sound too—Ken’s theme still slaps. If you’ve never played it, you’re missing out on one of the purest fighting game experiences out there.
