Super Street Fighter II on the Genesis was the version that finally got me hooked. Yeah, the graphics are a little chunkier than the arcade, but the four new fighters—Cammy, Dee Jay, Fei Long, and T. Hawk—make up for it. Cammy’s quick combos became my instant favorite, though Dee Jay’s goofy taunts almost won me over.
The colors pop way more than in the older Genesis ports, and the soundtrack actually sounds like it belongs in a fighting game now. Chun-Li’s theme still slaps. They tweaked the balancing too—no more endless Guile handcannons—so matches feel less cheesy and more about who’s actually better.
If you grew up mashing buttons on a three-button Genesis pad, this was the definitive way to play Street Fighter II at home.
