Street Fighter II' - Special Champion Edition on the Genesis was a big deal back in the day—it was the first time we got a proper home version of Champion Edition, which already felt like a step up from the original arcade release. You’ve got all 12 characters unlocked from the start (no more grinding just to play as Balrog or Sagat), and the mirror matches where you could pick the same fighter were a nice touch.
The Genesis version throws in an extra "Special" mode where you can tweat the speed and damage settings, which was fun for messing around. The sprites are a little chunkier than the arcade, and the music’s got that classic Genesis sound chip grit—some tracks actually slap harder than the original. Still, pulling off a Dragon Punch with Ryu feels just as satisfying as it should.
If you grew up with this port, you probably remember the hours spent trying to land that perfect combo before your friend countered with a cheap Blanka electricity spam.
