Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha on SNES is one of those weird, underrated gems that somehow made it to the 16-bit era. It’s not as polished as Street Fighter II Turbo, but there’s something charming about how it tries to cram in flashy special moves and a bigger roster than the hardware should handle.
You’ve got your usual suspects like Ryu and Ken, but then there are these oddball additions—like a dude who fights with a boomerang or a wrestler who suplexes people into next week. The sprites are chunky, and the animations can get a little janky when too much is happening, but that’s part of the fun. The first time you pull off a super combo and the screen flashes like a disco light, you’ll either laugh or wince—maybe both.
It’s definitely not the most balanced fighter out there (some characters feel like they’re playing a different game), but if you grew up with a SNES and love button-mashing chaos, this one’s worth a few rounds. Just don’t expect it to replace your Turbo sessions.
