Man, Street Fighter 2 – Special Championship Edition on the Genesis still hits different. You boot it up, pick your fighter (I always go for Guile first—that sonic boom just feels right), and suddenly you're back in that arcade mindset. The sprites are chunky but full of personality, and the controls? Surprisingly tight for a 16-bit port.
What I love is how each character actually feels distinct—Zangief’s lumbering grapples versus Dhalsim’s stretchy keep-away game forces you to adapt. The AI will wreck you if you just spam punches, but when you finally land that perfect shoryuken counter? Chef’s kiss.
Best part? Couch multiplayer. Nothing like the chaos of two people mashing buttons while Ken yells "SHORYUKEN" for the 50th time. The announcer’s "PERFECT" still lives in my head rent-free.
It’s not the prettiest version, but the heart of arcade greatness is all here.
