Star Wars on NES is one of those weird, janky-but-charming early attempts to cram the whole original trilogy into one cartridge. You start off as Luke on Tatooine, swinging your lightsaber at Sand People (good luck hitting anything—the controls take some getting used to). Then suddenly you're Han blasting TIE fighters in the Falcon, or Leia sneaking around the Death Star. It’s all over the place, but in a fun way.
The graphics are… well, it’s the NES, so don’t expect much. Obi-Wan looks like a pixelated ghost, and the Death Star trench run feels like threading a needle while blindfolded. But there’s something oddly satisfying about the clunky lightsaber duels and the chiptune version of the Imperial March. Just don’t expect it to play like a modern Star Wars game—this is pure 8-bit chaos with a side of nostalgia.
If you grew up renting weird licensed games from the video store, this one’s a trip down memory lane. Otherwise, maybe stick to the SNES version.
