Man, this NES version of Empire Strikes Back is such a weird little time capsule. You start off as Luke blasting stormtroopers with your pistol—which feels kinda janky at first—but then you get the lightsaber and suddenly you're deflecting shots like a champ. The Hoth level where you hop in a snowspeeder is the highlight, even if the controls make tying up AT-AT legs way harder than it should be.
What’s funny is how they crammed in Force powers out of nowhere. Like, yeah, Luke’s learning, but suddenly he’s force-pushing enemies off cliffs? Sure, why not. The whole thing has that classic NES charm—awkward hitboxes, questionable platforming, and music that’s just the movie theme on a 30-second loop. Kinda wild they never made a Return of the Jedi follow-up, but by ‘92, the NES was already on life support anyway.
If you’re into retro Star Wars games, this one’s a must-try—just don’t expect it to play like the SNES version.
