About Star Wars (japan) (namco)
Star Wars for the NES came out in 1991 from Namco, a time when developers were really pushing what the 8-bit system could do. It was one of the few games that tried to capture the entire story of the original film, which felt pretty ambitious for a cartridge.
You control Luke Skywalker through a mix of side-scrolling platforming and first-person shooting sections. The main goal is to survive the Death Star trench run, but first you have to get there by navigating Tatooine, blasting stormtroopers, and flying an X-wing. The game switches perspectives; you run and jump across platforms, then the view shifts to a targeting reticle for the shooting segments. It is known for being quite difficult, with precise jumps and relentless enemy fire. Finishing a level gives you a real sense of relief after all the attempts.
