Star Wars on NES (the Victor version from Japan) is this weird little mix of side-scrolling platforming and top-down shooting—kinda like if someone mashed up Super Mario Bros. with a basic space shooter. You start off jumping between platforms as Luke, blasting stormtroopers with your blaster, which feels janky but in that nostalgic NES way. Then suddenly it switches to these overhead sections where you’re piloting the Falcon through asteroid fields, and the controls get even weirder.
It’s definitely rough around the edges—hit detection is iffy, and some jumps feel unfair—but there’s charm in how it tries to cram the whole Death Star trench run into 8-bit. The music’s a chiptune version of the classic theme, which somehow makes up for a lot. Not the best Star Wars game out there, but an interesting relic if you’re into retro oddities.
