Pokémon Indigo Lite is one of those stripped-down ROM hacks that somehow nails the feel of the original Game Boy games while cutting out the fluff. You still get the classic Kanto adventure—wandering through tall grass, picking a starter (Bulbasaur forever, fight me), and battling gym leaders—but it moves faster. No endless tutorials, no hand-holding, just you and a slightly tweaked version of the world you probably memorized years ago.

Weirdly, the simplicity works. Your rival’s team is smarter, some Pokémon have different movesets, and there’s just enough new dialogue to keep it from feeling like a straight replay. I got stuck for a solid ten minutes trying to remember where to find Cut before realizing they moved it. Classic troll move.

If you’ve burned through FireRed one too many times, this is a solid way to revisit Kanto without the slog.
