Final Fantasy III - Evil Type on SNES is one of those weird, unofficial hacks that somehow makes an already great game even more interesting. It’s still the same classic JRPG you remember—turn-based combat, airships, that killer job system—but with a darker twist. Enemies hit harder, bosses have new tricks, and some story beats take a nastier turn. I got wrecked by the first real boss because I wasn’t expecting him to counter every third attack.
The pixel art and soundtrack are pure 90s Square magic, though. That moment when you first switch jobs and realize how much it changes your party’s flow? Still feels amazing. Just don’t go in thinking it’s a casual nostalgia trip—this version actually makes you strategize. Black Mages are glass cannons, Knights actually have to tank, and good luck cheesing the final dungeon with four Ninjas. If you’ve played the original to death, this mod’s tweaks are just different enough to feel fresh.
