Okay, so Yoshi on NES is this weird little puzzle game where you play as Mario or Luigi trying to stop a tower of blocks and monsters from reaching the top of the screen. The blocks keep dropping, and you’ve gotta shuffle columns left and right to match up enemies between two Yoshi eggshells—if you line ‘em up right, the eggs hatch and clear out a chunk of the pile. The more monsters you trap between the shells, the bigger Yoshi you get, which feels oddly satisfying when you pull off a big combo.
It’s simple at first, but the speed picks up fast, and before long you’re frantically swapping columns while the blocks creep higher. The European version calls it Mario & Yoshi, but it’s the same quirky, slightly chaotic puzzle action either way. Not gonna lie, it’s one of those games that’s way harder than it looks.
