Remember when TMNT games were just pure side-scrolling beat 'em ups? Radical Rescue on Game Boy actually mixes things up—it's more of a Metroidvania before that was even a thing. You start as Mikey, bouncing around sewers and smacking Foot Clan goons with your nunchucks, but soon you're rescuing your bros one by one, each with their own abilities (Leo's sword climbs walls, Donnie's staff pokes through grates, etc.).
The pixel art nails that '90s cartoon vibe, and switching between turtles on the fly keeps the backtracking from feeling stale. Some of those enemy patterns are brutal though—that first boss fight with the fly mutant? Took me way too many tries to figure out the rhythm. Still, it's got that classic TMNT charm, right down to the pizza power-ups. If you missed this one back in the day, it's way deeper than it looks at first glance.
